Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. Optionally, use a cookie cutter or a small ramekin to cut a 2-inch circle from the center of each slice to hold the egg.
Assembly
- Place a slice or sprinkle of shredded cheese on the unbuttered side of each bread slice.
- If you didn't cut a hole, press lightly in the center of the cheese-topped bread to create a shallow depression.
- Gently crack one egg into the well on each slice.
- Season each egg lightly with salt and pepper. Optionally, add an extra thin slice of cheese or sprinkle shredded cheese over the top.
Cooking
- Place the prepared slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook at 350°F for 6-9 minutes, depending on desired yolk doneness.
- Rotate the basket halfway through cooking for even results.
Serving
- Remove the slices carefully with a spatula, let rest for 1 minute, then serve warm with optional chives or hot sauce.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Re-crisp in the air fryer at 325°F for 3-4 minutes, or microwave for 20-30 seconds. Avoid freezing assembled toast.
